I was wondering if there was an organisation dedicated to independent computer professionals so I decided to search.  I was looking for an organisation that is different to the British Computer Society (BCS) in that it is focused exclusively on independent computer specialists.  Lo and behold I have found out that there is one in the UK called the AICS.

The AICS is the Asociation of Independent Computer Specialists and they claim that the AICS exists:

"to help its members succeed in business. It does this by providing members with access to sources of technical and business information, and by promoting the excellence and high standards of its members through a mandatory Code of Practice" 

All this sounds just swell until you look a little bit closer at the organisation which was first formed in 1972.  IMHO this organisation simply does not seem relevant to the needs of Computer Specialists today, I mean they have a link to the websites of only 3 members.

I don't want to sound negative but on the surface of it, my initial impression of this organisation was not good.  I'd like to look into this some more but this does not look good, not good at all.
